Lalit Bahl (MSEE ’66, PhD ’69) is manager of the Speech Recognition Algorithms Group at the IBM Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. Since joining IBM in 1968, Bahl has pioneered research in methods and algorithms for the automatic recognition of human speech. Using these techniques, IBM has developed some of the world’s most advanced speech recognition products. The IBM VoiceType and Simply Speaking systems allow PC users to create documents using speech input in English and many European languages.
