Stephen Yau
(MSEE '59, PhD '61)
Stephen Yau (MSEE ’59, PhD ’61) is a professor and chairman of the
Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Arizona State University. Prior
to that, he spent 27 years at Northwestern University. Since obtaining his PhD
in 1961, he has been one of the prominent leaders in a fledgling computer industry.
Yau has published extensively on switching theory and the reliability of computer
systems. In recognition of his research contributions in computer hardware and
software engineering, he has received the IEEE Fellow Award, along with many
other prestigious awards.
