Network Administrator

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois seeks to fill one or more full-time Visiting or Regular Network Administrator position(s) in its Computing and Technology Services group. The CTS group supports the computing needs of instructional labs, administrative staff, and cutting-edge researchers within the departments of ECE, Bioengineering and the Micro and Nanotechnology Lab. The majority of managed PCs and server infrastructure are Windows XP / Vista and Server 2003. Research support needs include a mix of Microsoft, Macintosh and Linux operating systems. The wide variety in the computing environment and the breadth of the team means diverse skill sets will be considered. The successful candidate(s) will have the opportunity to work independently as well as with an existing team of system administrators on a variety of projects. The visiting position may become regular at a future date.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience
  • Practical knowledge of current Windows operating systems
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networks including DNS, DHCP, and wireless
  • Excellent software and hardware troubleshooting skills
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple competing demands efficiently and effectively
  • Interest in keeping up with current technology, acquiring new skills, and sharing technical knowledge with colleagues
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous experience administering Linux systems
  • Previous experience administering MacOS systems
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange / Outlook
  • Experience in technology at Illinois or other higher education institution

This is a 12-month, non-tenured visiting or regular academic professional appointment with applicable University benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, minimum $45,000.
