Department Infrastructure Support Services

Computer and Technology Services (CTS) provides computer and network support for the following units: Electrical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Micro and Nano Technology Lab, and the Information Trust Institute. Support for these units covers the following areas: Instructional Labs, Instructional Offices, and Administrative Support Staff within ECE, Bioengineering, and the Micro and Nanotechnolgy Lab. Additional services provided include:
  • Computer support for instructional labs and offices
  • Support for administrative support staff
  • Activating network jacks (Except for units housed in Beckman & CSL)
  • Assigning IP addresses (Except for units housed in Beckman & CSL)
  • Website hosting for departments, instructional courses, and research groups
  • Disposal of old computers according to State of Illinois regulations

Research Computer Support Service

Research groups within supported units may also contract with CTS to obtain computer support through the Research Computing Support Service, which provides end-to-end computing support for research faculty, their labs, graduate students, and other associated researchers. Specific support obligations are negotiable, but a typical contract might include the following:
  • Ordering and Setup
  • Troubleshooting
  • Network Management
  • Backups
  • Security
  • Software Licensing

One-time Support

Research groups and faculty without a support contract may obtain support on an as-needed basis. The cost per incident is $60 per hour, with a minimum two hour charge. This service would be especially useful for configuring new machines and cleaning virus-infected machines.
